Private Events

The best private dining experiences share something that's difficult to manufacture and impossible to fake: the feeling that the evening was designed specifically for the people in the room.

Not a banquet hall configured for efficiency. A deliberate, considered experience - the food, the wine, the space, the team - arranged around your group and your occasion.

That's what private dining at Aiona is built to be.

Located at 1213 K Street in downtown Sacramento, in the heart of the city's cultural and business district, Aiona offers three distinct private event configurations - from an intimate boardroom-style dining room to a full restaurant buyout for up to 300 guests - all centered on the same live-fire Mediterranean kitchen that defines the restaurant itself. Every private event at Aiona is built around the fire, the 3,000-bottle wine cellar, and a team with the depth and experience to execute at the highest level.

Here's everything you need to know.

Why Live Fire Makes Private Events Unforgettable

There's a practical reason most corporate dinners, rehearsal events, and milestone celebrations are forgettable: the food is the least interesting thing in the room.

At Aiona, the food is the conversation.

The open kitchen - visible from the private dining room, the patio, and the main dining room - runs on a Mibrasa charcoal oven, one of fewer than 50 manufactured each year in a small workshop in Catalonia, Spain. It burns almond wood and Brazilian hardwood charcoal. By the time your guests arrive, it has been going for hours, and the subtle warmth of wood smoke that greets them at the door is the first signal that this is not an ordinary venue.

The dishes that come off that fire - wood-roasted whole branzino, souvlaki, rotisserie chicken wet-brined for 24 hours and rubbed with Lebanese toum, the 72-hour short rib - are the kind of food people describe to each other at the table and talk about in the car on the way home. Shared Mediterranean plates, passed family-style, create a different kind of dinner energy than plated individual courses. People lean in. Conversations cross the table. The meal becomes the occasion, not the backdrop to it.

Add a cellar of 3,000 bottles curated by Advanced Sommelier Elizabeth-Rose Mandalou - one of only a handful in Sacramento - and the option to have her build a custom wine pairing for your event, and the evening becomes something that reflects genuine taste and intention on the part of whoever planned it.

That distinction matters. For corporate hosts, it signals that the evening was chosen with care. For couples planning a rehearsal dinner, it sets a tone that carries into the wedding weekend. For anyone marking a milestone, it makes the occasion feel as significant as it is.

The Spaces

The Private Dining Room

Aiona's dedicated Private Dining Room is the most intimate and versatile space in the restaurant. It seats up to 32 guests for a formal dinner and accommodates 60 or more in a reception configuration - making it equally suited to an executive dinner for 14 and a cocktail reception for 50.

The room includes two 75-inch monitors with HDMI connectivity, making it one of the few private dining spaces in downtown Sacramento designed to handle presentations, slideshows, and multimedia needs without the awkward addition of a rented projector screen. For board dinners, award presentations, sales meetings with a dinner component, or any event where a screen matters, the infrastructure is already there.

The PDR is available for both lunch and dinner service, as well as partial configurations for groups that don't require exclusive use of the full room. It's our most frequently requested space for corporate dinners, rehearsal celebrations, and milestone birthday or anniversary events - occasions where the intimacy of a defined, private room makes the difference between a dinner and a memory.

The Patio

Aiona's outdoor patio is among the most flexible event spaces in downtown Sacramento, and one of the most beautiful.

Seated, the full patio accommodates up to 72 guests. In reception configuration - cocktails, passed bites, the fire visible in the open kitchen beyond - it holds 150. Half-patio configurations are available for smaller groups who want the outdoor experience without committing to the full space.

The patio is exceptional for warm-weather receptions, cocktail hours, happy-hour buyouts (available Monday through Friday, 3:00–4:30pm), and summer or spring celebrations that benefit from Sacramento's outdoor-friendly climate. For events that want to begin with cocktails on the patio and move indoors for dinner, the flow between the outdoor space and the main dining room is seamless.

Weekend patio availability varies with regular dining service - reach out to our events team early for weekend dates, which move quickly.

Full Restaurant Buyout

For events that require the full stage, Aiona offers complete restaurant buyouts for up to 300 guests in a combined indoor/outdoor reception configuration.

A full buyout is the right choice for large corporate receptions, fundraisers, launch events, holiday parties, and celebrations that deserve the full architectural and culinary experience of Aiona - the main dining room, the bar, the patio, the open kitchen, all of it - dedicated entirely to your guests for the evening.

Full buyout pricing and availability are handled directly with our events team. These dates are limited and should be discussed as early in the planning process as possible.

The Menu: Built Around Your Group and the Season

Private event menus at Aiona are not afterthoughts. They are built in collaboration with the culinary team, tailored to the season, and designed to showcase the live-fire kitchen at its best for your specific group.

For groups of 15 or more, Aiona's events menus follow a family-style format - shared plates passed at the table, in the spirit of a Mediterranean feast. This format is deliberate: it creates the warmth and communal energy that defines the Aiona dining experience, and it allows the fire-cooked proteins and seasonal sides to arrive at their best rather than sitting under a cloche.

Lunch menus offer two or three-course formats, with a generous selection of starters, entrees from the fire, and sides.

Dinner menus range from three to four courses, with multiple starters, second courses, fire-cooked main plates, rotating seasonal sides, and dessert. The four-course format - with a dedicated second course - is the right choice for milestone celebrations and occasions where the meal is the centerpiece of the evening.

Reception menus - light or substantial - are available for cocktail-style events where guests are mingling rather than seated.

All menus are finalized with the events team, with final selections tailored to your group's preferences, dietary needs, and the season's best ingredients. Nothing is pulled from a static banquet list.

The Wine

Elizabeth-Rose Mandalou built the Aiona cellar specifically to serve every occasion the restaurant hosts - and for private events, that means a wine program that can scale from a thoughtful house selection to a bespoke sommelier pairing for a multi-course dinner.

For events where wine matters - and at Aiona, wine always matters - Elizabeth-Rose is available to build a custom pairing for your menu, selecting bottles from the 3,000-bottle cellar that complement each course and reflect the Mediterranean spirit of the food. This is not a standard pairing added as an afterthought. It is a considered, course-by-course selection from one of Sacramento's most knowledgeable sommeliers, available upon request for your event.

Beverage service for all private events is charged on a consumption basis. Hosted or cash bar options are both available. Groups with specific wine requests - a particular producer, a specific vintage, a bottle with personal significance - should make those requests at least seven days in advance, subject to availability.

Who Aiona Private Dining Is Built For

Corporate Dinners and Executive Entertainment

Aiona's location in Sacramento's central business district - steps from the Capitol, minutes from every major downtown hotel, and in the same block as the Sheraton Grand - makes it a natural choice for the kind of corporate entertaining that needs to reflect well on whoever organized it.

The Private Dining Room, with its AV capability and intimate capacity, is particularly well-suited to executive dinners, board meetings with a dinner component, client entertainment, and sales events where the environment is as important as the meal. The live-fire food and deep wine program give the host something to talk about - which is more than most corporate venues offer.

For year-end client dinners, team celebrations, and the category of corporate event where "we'll just go somewhere nice" isn't quite enough, Aiona is the right call. And for Q4, when the calendar fills quickly across downtown Sacramento, reaching out early is not a formality - it is genuinely necessary.

Rehearsal Dinners

A rehearsal dinner sets the emotional register for the entire wedding weekend. The best ones feel like a warm-up act that almost steals the show - intimate, generous, full of good food and the particular electricity of people who love each other gathering the night before something significant.

Aiona's Private Dining Room and patio are both exceptional rehearsal dinner settings, and the live-fire Mediterranean format - shared plates, good wine, a beautiful room, a team that knows how to make a table feel taken care of - creates exactly that energy.

The space accommodates rehearsal dinner groups of varying sizes, with the PDR suited to more intimate gatherings and the patio ideal for larger wedding parties. Custom menus, sommelier-selected wine pairings, and the option to bring a cake or dessert from an outside bakery (with prior approval) give couples and families the flexibility to make the evening their own.

Milestone Celebrations

Milestone birthdays, anniversaries, retirement dinners, promotions - occasions that deserve an environment equal to their significance.

The four-course dinner menu, a curated wine pairing from Elizabeth-Rose, and a table in Aiona's Private Dining Room constitute a celebration that doesn't require decoration to feel special. The fire does that. The food does that. The level of attention from a team that has spent its career in Michelin-recognized hospitality does that.

For milestone events where the host wants to bring an outside cake or dessert, Aiona accommodates this with prior approval and a nominal per-person fee. All décor beyond that is welcome with advance coordination - floral arrangements, table details, and anything that can be removed cleanly at the end of the evening.

Fundraisers and Cultural Events

Aiona's downtown location - one block from the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center, a short walk from Sacramento's civic and cultural infrastructure - makes it a natural fit for fundraisers, nonprofit galas, and events connected to Sacramento's arts and cultural community.

The full restaurant buyout, in particular, creates a venue that feels like a destination rather than a default. For organizations looking to host a memorable fundraising dinner, a cultivation event for major donors, or a reception connected to a performing arts engagement at the PAC, Aiona offers both the space and the caliber of experience that makes guests feel their attendance was worthwhile.
